Throughout the World Team Championships, 37 girls and 43 boys between the ages of 10 and 15 will have the opportunity to watch the professionals and to take up the bats themselves afterwards. From 28th April to 1st May, there will be a youth camp in the AWD-Dome, sponsored by Donic, based in close proximity to the table tennis stars. Apart from the training, other highlights of the programme will include visits to the World Championships and the Universum Science Centre.
Templates were sent out to all schools throughout Germany in the summer of last year. The pupils were called upon to design the most imaginative table tennis bat. The returned bats will be displayed at the World Championships. ‘We wrote to 6600 schools and sent out 60,000 templates,’ says DTTB Popular Sports Officer, Marita Bugenhagen. At the 2000 European Championships, several thousand girls and boys took part in the ball-painting competition. In total, 32,000 balls were decorated. The glass containers with these balls can be admired throughout the Championships in the AWD-Dome, as well as all the painted bats that have been sent in.

Over 40 ‘teams’ have registered for the family tournament. One child/teenager aged up to 16, together with one other family member makes up a team. Only one of the two players can be an active club member. The tournament again will take place in Hall 6 of the AWD-Dome, from 10.00 – 13.00.
Men and women coaches holding an A or B licence, may use this offer. There will also be a conference of training officers and a training course for officials. Last but not least, Table Tennis as a Health Sport will be introduced in four trial courses of two and a half hours each. The courses will be held in German only.
